Kate: 1 month

Our little beauty is a month! We’re hearing coos sporadically and yesterday saw the tiniest smile. Leo, Dave, and I were all standing around Kate, so we all got to see it!

Kate is eating and sleeping well. She’s napping in her crib most of the time, although sometimes she sleeps in the Bjorn carrier as I’m wearing her. She goes down easier if you put her down awake than if you try to rock her. Surprising, but it’s true. If you rock her she tends to get overtired or can’t fall asleep and then ends up freaking out and raging hard (Bjorn is the exception). She also needs a noise machine to sleep – not to block out noise, but to create noise. I figured this out when she wouldn’t sleep in her crib in the quiet but would fall asleep in her bouncer while I sweepered or walked on the treadmill.

Kate eats every 2.5-3 hours during the day and 3-4 at night. We’re not on a set schedule yet but we’re working toward one.

I’ve been walking in the morning around 5:30 or 6am while Kate sleeps and Dave is getting Leo breakfast. I do about two miles and try to make it a workout with pace and incline. Then I walk again around 12:30pm while Leo naps (with Kate napping in her crib, hanging in her bouncer, or in the Bjorn). This one is a casual pace and I shoot for another two miles.

So far Kate likes having her diaper changed, looking out windows/at light, baths (sometimes), being warm, and noise. She hates hats and dirty diapers and being put in her carseat. She is opinionated and dramatic, going from totally fine to incredibly angry in a flash. She likes her wubbanub pacifier sometimes but other times gets really mad that you even offered it. She has a really strong neck and legs. Kate is wearing some newborn and some 0-3 clothes. She’s definitely growing fast!

Happy 1 month, sweet Kate!

  1. Lovely! I think she looks like a Schlegel in the first photo. Glad you are settling into a rhythm as a family of four!

  2. She is so sweet!! Sounds like you guys are getting into a good routine! Yay for being able to get in some good quality exercise. You go, girl for doing 4 miles per day. That’s awesome.

  3. Yay! I love reading these little details about Kate! How interesting that she goes to sleep better, if you put her down, awake 🙂 And how great you all got to see that smile. I can’t believe it’s been a month!
