The Apple Festival was this weekend in a town close to ours, so we planned to head over there Saturday afternoon, specifically for the air and car show. The festival website made the air and car show sound like one of the main attractions so we were pretty excited about it and thought Leo would be in heaven. Turns out he did really love it but ohmygosh, it was so weird.
The show (combo air and car) was held at a small airport in the middle of fields. There were probably 150-200 people there. When we arrived it was dead quiet except for the announcer who was reading off raffle prizes. And everyone turned to stare as you approached, so it totally felt like WE were the festival show. Five planes took off shortly after we got there – we think this was the air show – but it was not announced at all and they just kept reading raffle prizes (so.many.raffle.prizes). Leo liked seeing the planes take off and circle around, although they didn’t really do many tricks. We walked around looking at the old cars and then after 20 minutes took off. All in all, it was just a really bizarre vibe: no music, no “festival” atmosphere, so quiet, so strangely alienating. They were also still calling raffle prizes when we left.
However, Leo totally loved it and we had a really good laugh about it. Here’s some shots from the time there (and some weird stuff we saw):
