dinner out

Dinner out with a toddler can be a bit of a gamble.  We’ve done it before and had it be okay – not great, not bad, but definitely not relaxing – and we’ve had it be terrible – stressful, hard to manage, and just a dash to get in and out as fast as possible before Leo completely imploded.  But last night we took Leo to Bob Evans and guys, it was the best.  He was content and sweet, he kept thanking the waitress (unprovoked by us), and it was genuinely a really really fun experience for all of us.  Leo colored, he liked his cup with his straw, he talked to people at tables around us, and he had our waitress completely wrapped around his little finger.  It was a blast.

It’s been awhile since we’ve gone out to eat and we’ve made huge progress with Leo in listening and not fussing since then, so we’re hopeful that we can have more pleasant dining experiences to look forward to (and realistic knowing there will still be some not-so-fun ones, too).  In the meantime, I’m so thankful for a happy family dinner memory!

  1. Woo hoo! Bob Evans always puts me in a good mood. I am so glad he did well for you. We’ve tried to be consistent taking Miles out to avoid the terrible 4-year-old scenes. Places like BE are great because you can order the boy’s food first and then get yours.

  2. Yes! I loved reading this! And that last picture. AWWW!!!!

I want to go to Red Robin with you and Leo and Kimberly and Bobbi and Miles. And Data. And Mosie.
