Yesterday Leo had his first non-family birthday party to attend. Our friend down the street, Jack, turned 5 so we went out to the park to celebrate him. It was raining when we got there, but they had rented a pavilion, so we had shelter. Turns out that little boys don’t really need or want shelter from the rain! Leo immediately found some puddles to run through and was such a happy boy tromping through the water, poking in the mud, running up and down the hill. We stayed and had watermelon lemonade and pizza (Leo ate two bites and said “no pizza” – who is this kid??) and cupcakes and headed home shortly before they started opening presents.
At home Dave (wonderfully) took over getting Leo a real dinner and a bath and to bed while I hurried to get dressed and head out for the Tuesday night trail 5k. I wasn’t sure what to expect from the race. It was 80 some degrees and crazy humid and I was feeling tired and had just eaten pizza and cupcakes. But the run turned out really great. I was soaked in sweat but came in at 29:44, which is better than I ran last time and still under 30:00 (I’m trying to hold on to that for as long as possible). The run was just what I needed, too, as I’m in the office in meetings for the next two days. I’ll hold on to that race euphoria!
