running: 1 year postpartum

On August 19, 2011 Leo David was born.  On October 4th, 2011 I went running for the first time.  In the year since I started running again I:

Probably 700 of those miles were with Leo in the stroller (not counting hundreds of miles of walks with me or Dave).  The other miles were logged on the treadmill during the winter, or out on my own after Leo went to bed.  Truthfully, I like the miles with Leo more than the miles without him.  I enjoy our time together.  I love knowing he’s outside.  I love partnering with him in exercise, teaching him even now the importance of moving and getting out.  It’s been miles of cheerios, matchbox cars, routes modified to keep us on even sidewalks and near cars (way more exciting than boring trees).  Miles running errands, running out fussiness (maybe for both of us), running out sleepless nights and parental weariness.

I’m a little sad that colder mornings are sneaking in, keeping us from going out together regularly!  And who knows by spring if Leo will tolerate an hour in the stroller on runs (or how heavy he’ll be!).  I’m so grateful for the past year we’ve had to run together – and looking forward to when we run together side by side!
