weird nights

Weird nights over here.  Leo was up at 3am again last night, this time happy and playful.  We played with wooden blocks on the floor in his room until 4:15am, when he went down again.  We woke him up at 6am to try to keep him on schedule. Oy.  A friend sent me a link to thewonderweeks.com, suggesting that Leo is probably going through a developmental spurt and it’s messing with his sleep.  From the reading I’ve done on the site (and Dave and I’s intuition) we’d say it’s right.  Leo definitely wasn’t hungry last night or teething… just awake and bored.  We’re hoping this spurt doesn’t last too long!

Yesterday we made a trip to Walmart to pick up a few things.  On the way there Dave treated me to a very-belated-birthday present (he’d intended to do it around my birthday but it kept not working out): a car wash!  I LOVE going through car washes.  So for $5 we got our Honda all clean.

Initially I was looking at Dave for the picture, but I got distracted by the giant brushes.

I also signed up for another race yesterday – the Elkhart County 4H Parade 5K!  Leo and I are going to run it together.  The run is the beginning of the parade, so Dave and I are planning on decorating the stroller a little bit to make it more festive.  The race is also later in the day, when it’s hot, so it will be purely for fun and not time.

Have you signed up for any races lately?

Any advice for handling way-too-awake babies in the middle of the night?

  1. Love that picture of you. I also love going through the carwash. I really need to do it soon.

Ella is also having crazy sleep right now. Waking up sometimes 2-3 times/night. It’s been rough. She’s on the verge of walking so I think that might be it.

  2. I’m not a super parent, and I think we got lucky with Elias’ sleeping, but have you ever considered switching Leo’s routine up a little bit? Maybe pushing his bedtime back a little? Does he still go to bed for the night around 6 or 6:30? I know you start your day earlier than us but Elias sleeps from 8:30-7:30(ish), then naps from 9:30-11:30 and 2:00-4:00 – those are ballpark ranges and it isn’t rigid. We haven’t experienced very much really early waking…hope it gets better for you guys soon! (now for figuring how to address my 15 month old’s temper tantrums!)

    1. We put him to bed at 7. When we’ve played with his bedtime it hasn’t ended well – he generally wakes up earlier. 7pm seems to be his natural “ready for bed” time, even when he’s napped really well during the day.

  3. Love the photo – don’t love the late nights. We never had that weird waking but we’ve been in a weird Mr. Jeckyl-Dr. Hyde phase lately. Teething, weather – who knows. I sometimes think he is just bored with us.

  4. I can’t wait to see your stroller decorations! 🙂

Poor Leo. At least he is just wanting to play when he wakes. LOL. If I woke up bored and awake I would get online 🙂

  5. I wish I had some advice…we were up from 3:30-6:30 with Emitt the other day! We tried for 2 hours to get him back to sleep (and I mean we tried EVERYTHING) then just gave up and decided “we’re up for the day”—of course then he’s ready to go back to sleep. 🙂 Little stinkers!

  6. I love car washes and that picture of you! I just signed up for a 10 miler on August 19th. I needed an August race. Being playful at night is no fun at all, I just try and play with him without falling asleep. Hope he starts sleeping again!
