book fail

Over December and January I’ve gotten to play with two pieces of technology, thanks to my job.  The first was the Kindle Fire.  The second, an Asus tablet computer.  While both have been a lot of fun to toy with, they’ve wrecked my reading.  I’ve facebooked, emailed, read blogs, and played an insane amount of solitaire while I’ve been nursing, but I haven’t done as much reading.  Fail.

January books:

  • On Canaan’s Side by Sebastian Barry

Grade: B.  I think I’d like this book even more the second time.  The end had a great twist that made me want to reread the book to see if I could have picked up on it sooner.  I felt like my reading was pretty distracted, too, so I missed some good stuff.  Definitely one to keep on my shelf and pick up again!

What have you been reading lately?

  1. I bought a Kindle Touch, and it’s awesome, it’s easy to read and let’s me switch between magazines and books easily. Tablets are marketed as more versatile e-readers, but it isn’t true. They’re versatile, and allow reading in short spurts, but don’t offer anywhere near the quality of experience as a dedicated device (nor the battery life).

  2. I finished Sisterhood Everlasting (follow up to the Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants series). I was sort of disappointed mostly because it didn’t turn out how I wanted it to….hehe. 🙂 I’m now reading the Happiness of Pursuit about father and son cyclists. It’s very inspiring!

  3. i finally finished war and peace. reading something with baklava in the title. cooking memoir. with middle eastern flavor. what’s not to like?

  4. I just finished “One Summer” by David Baldacci. I read “Christmas Train” (by Baldacci) over the holidays and really enjoyed his writing style….now I’m hooked!!

  5. I just read The Scent of Rain and Lightning by Nancy Pickard – it is a great murder mystery! I loved that the ending was a surprise – but could have done without the sex scenes 🙂 I recommend it though! I couldn’t put it down!
