Long run #1 of marathon training is finished! 11 miles, 1:43:23, 9:24 pace, although in reality the run took much longer. I started at 7pm, stopped for a nursing/put Leo to bed break, and was interrupted by some unfortunate intestinal issues. 9:30pm the run finally finished. Still, feels good to have it complete and to not have punked out (I was very tempted). I kept the treadmill between 6.5 and 6.0 most of the time, with a few spurts of 7.0 to hurry up the miles. I’ve been watching Gilmore Girls while I run – I never saw it when it was on tv – and I managed almost an entire disc. I also learned that after 100 minutes the treadmill automatically resets itself. Good thing I had just checked my mileage!
This morning I did 4 miles of hills at an easy pace. 1 mile at 6.0, then 1 minute of incline (6%) followed by 3 minutes of flat. Repeated until 3.5 miles, then finished it out flat. My legs started out tired but held up really well through the run – I felt like I could have done a little more!
I’m wearing compression socks for the first time today (sent to me by runningskirts.com last year!), too. I’m curious to see if they really help my legs recuperate. And they’re pink!
I appreciate that these weren’t super hard to put on – like yanking on super thick pantyhose.
