moving again

It’s been 3 weeks (and a few days) since I’ve had Leo.

While I’m anxious to get back to running, getting back into regular exercise has been a slow process.  Originally I planned to start walking again at 2 weeks postpartum.

However, with input from my doctor and just listening to my own body cues, I realized that was a little soon.  Now 3 weeks out I feel more ready to walk regularly – and my body seems to be responding well, too.  So my plan is to start walking again this week, although it will probably only be 30ish minutes (if that) to start.  Overall, I feel really good and my energy levels are great.  I’m hopeful I can start running again at week 5 or 6, but again, I’ll wait and see and assess how my body is feeling.

Originally I had hoped to run the Grand Rapids half marathon in mid October (especially since I loved the marathon so much last year!).  I still think I could run it, but I probably won’t because of how expensive the sign-up fee is.  Instead, maybe I’ll aim to run my own 13.1 miles that weekend.  What do you think?

So that’s where things are at over here, exercise-wise.  I hope to be back to running – and blogging about running! – soon!  Thanks for being patient with me in the meantime!

  1. I’m glad you are starting to feel ready to exercise again! Bummed, though, that you don’t think you’ll be up here for the GR Half, although I completely understand. I’m giving serious thought to finding a 1/2 down by you sometime this spring. I’ll be running TinkerBell at the end of January, but then nothing until River Bank Run in mid-May. Any suggestions?

    I think you should see how you feel about doing your own 13.1! If you are up to it, go for it! You were able to get so many running and walking miles in until Leo came, I bet you’ll be good to go 🙂

  3. You are so ambitious! It’s inspiring. I started jogging 5 weeks after I had Emitt and although I haven’t done any long runs at all, I jog 2 miles every time I make it out to exercise. Feels great to be getting back in to the exercise groove. It’s great you are setting a goal to do a half in october!
