books page!

I added a Books tab to the blog!  I’ve tried to list some of my favorites, as well as books I’ve read in the past few months and really loved.  Let me know what you think!

In other news, I’m really bad at keeping houseplants alive.  Case in point:

Please note that most of these plants are very pathetic looking or straight-up dead in appearance (I’m hoping they might revive?).  This past weekend I repotted all of them, hoping fresh soil might give them a little more hope.  I also have them all on the windowsill in the mudroom, as they tend to get a lot of light there.  There are a few I think will make it… there are others I’m really not sure about.

I know I need to get better at figuring out when to water plants.  I tend to either water them too much or forget about them completely.  Whoops.  Mosie doesn’t help things – she enjoys snacking on plants, especially the grass ones, and that doesn’t help matters much.

So let’s have some fun with this:

How are you at keeping houseplants alive?  Do you have any tips for me?

  1. My hubbs and I don’t have any plants around the house but a friend of our gave us this stuff for cats. I call it “cat grass” its suppose to help cats STOP eating your plants because they want to it this grass. I think you can get it at target. My cats go nuuuuuuts for it!

  2. The only plant I’ve had any luck with is a peace lilly. I’ve kept it alive for 1 1/2 yrs with very little care. It will start to look droopy & dead but then I give it water & the next day it’s back.

  3. you inherited the plant killing trait from mom. i revived all of hers when i was there to help after the hip surgery. i can help yours when i come in august if you tell jill i’m baby boy’s favorite aunt. deal?

  4. NO DEAL kim! a few drops of miracle grow liquid for houseplants always helps mine. though i have a green thumb because i have a christmas cactus that has tripled in size since i got it and an orchid that has never stopped blooming!

  5. Does it surprise you that I am the same way with plants? Plus Joey also likes to eat them if I do happen to have them survive. I have one kind of very hardy, viney thing (it’s a very common plant that I have no idea what it’s called). I’ve kept it alive for a long time. It’s stuffed away in the office (doesn’t require much light) and I look at it about once a month and see that it’s starting to look wilted, so then I water it. It perks right back up. Aaron’s mom potted some flowers for me so that the outside on my porches will look pretty. I have kept two out of the three alive so far. Not too bad, eh? I do much better with things planted in the ground and if it’s useful (meaning I can eat it). So far, I’m the only one who has voted that you’ll kill them all. 🙂

  6. i am the worst with houseplants.:) but i do place partial blame on our cat Clio. she always chews on them. even if i have cut flowers in a vase, she’s up there nibbling away at the leaves. little punk…:)
