afternoon workouts

Here’s a lesson I already knew: if I put off my workout until the afternoon, it doesn’t happen.  Or at least 9 times out of 10 it doesn’t.

Yesterday I didn’t run in the morning because I was feeling kind of “off” (lightheaded when I stood up) and, admittedly, because it was really freakin cold outside and I like to think I’m still in Florida.  I thought I would just go later, knowing it would probably take some motivation.


At 3pm I finally convinced myself to just get outside – cold or no cold.  So I pulled on a pair of jeans (non-pregnancy jeans so I definitely mean pulled and I definitely don’t mean buttoned) and got out there.  I walked 5 miles in 1:15.  It was a gorgeous walk – bright and sunny, not too cold, but cold enough.  It wasn’t a run but it felt really good all the same.

My goal for today then is to run this morning, cold or no cold, and not “wait til the afternoon.”  We all know how that goes.  You guys can help hold me to this!

When is the best time for you to workout?  If you wait does your workout still happen?

I definitely prefer working in the morning, but during the school year that just doesn’t happen (at least the running part doesn’t since most of the year it’s too dark when I would need to go out for a run). I try to go right after school because I know if I go home first, the opportunity will have certainly passed.

    I’m proud of you for still getting out there and getting in 5 miles! That’s phenomenal.

  2. I would prefer to work out in the am and get it over with but as a teacher, I don’t have the time. So, I go directly to the gym after work. If I go home first, it’s over! There’s no way I”m going to get to the gym if I stop by the house first. However, I have been known to get to the gym, change into my workout clothes, go upstairs and step on a machine, walk for 1-2 minutes, go back downstairs, change and drive home. When that happens, I leave the gym with my head held in shame! It’s a rare occurance, though!

  3. I am the same way – if I don’t do it in the morning, I don’t do it at all. I can sometimes manage a walk in the afternoon but never a run.

    And I love the comment about your jeans! I miss those days :/ A tip from me to you – you can loop a hair band around the button and button hole to keep ’em closed.

    It sounds like you are feeling light-headed and sick to your stomach a lot more – are you doing okay? 🙂
