racing!

Once upon a time Dave told me he’d never do a half marathon, that he had no desire for it.

Then we ran Fort Lauderdale together and he realized it was kind of fun.  And I know that he’s so naturally athletic that he won’t have to train a lot in order to run the whole 13.1 miles (he didn’t for Fort Lauderdale).

As for me, I’ve always been a bit of a race addict fanatic.  And being pregnant and all, I haven’t been able to sign up for as many marathons and half marathons this year (although I’m hoping I can do a half marathon in the fall, post-baby).

But then I found the Holy Half Marathon!  It’s on April 10 and loops twice around Notre Dame campus.  I’m so excited to run this with Dave!  Plus the entry fee was low ($35) and the proceeds benefit three charities.  I’ll be about 4.5 months pregnant at this point, so I’m confident that I’ll still be good to run (or run/walk), if a little slow.  Now I have two more races to look forward to: the Holy Half and the Indy half marathon in May.  Woohoo!

Signing up for races gets me all excited.  Especially now that Dave is signing up, too!

What races do you have coming up this spring/summer?

A day late, but happy birthday to my sweet niece, Lydia Cate, who turned TWO yesterday!  Dave and I love and adore this funny, smart, beautiful little girl!

  1. Hey! Just how “slow” do you plan to do the Holy Half? I found out about that race AFTER I signed up for my first half to be the following Sunday out of town. I’ve momentarily considered doing the race as a final long run – so slowly of course. But I’m totally on the fence about that, because maybe I should just save my money and actually “race” another one this fall. Hmm.

      1. The half I’m doing is equally cheap 🙂 And 2:12 may be slow for you, but my current goal is to do my half in 2:20…maybe we can meet up for lunch after the race?!

  2. Yeah for you committing to do races even while you are preggers!!!!

I’m going a little nuts with my races this spring. If anyone would have suggested I’d sign up for these a year ago, I’d have told them they were crazy.

Sriders 10 miler in April, 5/3 River Bank Run 25k in Grand Rapids in May, then about 6 days later I’ll run the Fitbloggin 5k, and then the following weekend I’m signed up to run the Soldier Field 10 miler. I think I’ve lost my marbles. If you find them, please return them to me 🙂

  3. I’ll be running a half next Saturday, then a 5K on March 12, then hopefully another 5k in April. I’ve already signed up for a 5k in July and a 15.5k in August. I like to have a race every month, if possible, but we don’t have a whole lot of long distances so I mainly sign up for 5ks.

  4. I’m obsessed with running races… I’ve got
Mar 20- Rock CF Rivers Half
Mar 27- Around the Bay 30K
    Apr 2- Martian Half
Apr 17- Glass City Toledo Half
    May 1- Flying Pig Full
    June 25- Solstice Run 10M
    July 4- Volkslaufe 20K
    Aug 27- Crim 10M
    🙂 I have a problem…

  5. I am excited you two are doing another half together!

Of course, when you told me you were coming to town, the first thing I did was look up races! There is a 5K/Half on the 27th, but early in the morning 😉

I have a 5K this weekend, one in two weeks, one on 4/2, a 4 miler two weeks later, a 5K on 4/29 then a half on 4/30 and another half on 5/7. I am doing the Madison to Chicago Relay and June, and maybe a marathon and a 3.5 mile race in May. Maybe 😉
